XIV SUPERMARATONA DELL'ETNA

By an idea of ​​the US Tosi from Tarvisio, back in 2004, Guiness WR challenge was born: climbing while running the highest active volcano in Europe, starting from altitude 0 m.a.s.l. until 3000 m altitude, covering the classic marathon distance.

The challenge, which have been successfully pulled off only by two out of the three participants, has now become the largest uphill race in the world, the only one capable of running a marathon with an altitude difference of 3000 m.a.s.l.

The event, is scheduled for next 13th June 2020: setting up the departure from the beach of Marina di Cottone, it will continue through the municipalities of Fiumefreddo di Sicilia, Piedimonte Etneo and Linguaglossa, crossing all the old town at the foothills of the Etna, and the participants will clamber up the Mareneve Regional Road which connects Linguaglossa to Piano Provenzana,  from where the road surface ends to continue further through the dirt path which leads to 3000 meters, where the arrival is planned after 43 km “running”.
